Silver Cleaning Tips

While the "best" method is always a matter of opinion, here are a few thoughts (not listed in any order):

1 - Baking Soda method: Apply a paste of baking soda and water. Rub gently but firmly, rinse, and polish/buff dry with a soft cloth. To remove tarnish, sprinkle baking soda on a damp cloth and rub it on until the tarnish is gone. Rinse completely and dry well.

2 - Aluminum Foil, Baking Soda, and Salt: Place a sheet of aluminum foil in the bottom of a pan, add enough water to cover the silver when you put it in the pan, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon salt, and bring the water to a boil. Add silver pieces to the water, boil 2-3 minutes. Remove silver, rinse, dry, and buff with a soft cloth. This method is especially excellent for cleaning the design and crevices of silver pieces.

3 - Toothpaste: (most commonly used to remove tarnish), coat the silver with toothpaste, then run it under warm water, work it into a foam, and rinse it off. For stubborn stains or intricate grooves, use a soft toothbrush.
